John “Jack” Kane joined Kroll (formerly Duff & Phelps) in 2008. He is a managing director in the Morristown office and part of the Valuation Advisory Services practice. He has more than 35 years of experience in valuations, management consulting and financial advisory for the communications, entertainment and media industries.

Jack specializes in serving major clients in the cable television, broadcast television and radio, filmed entertainment and programming, wireline and wireless telecommunications, publishing and sports teams and venues. He has conducted and managed numerous valuations, management consulting and financial advisory engagements. Jack has been accepted as an expert in the media and communications industry in Federal Courts, U.S. Bankruptcy Courts, trial courts, administrative hearing boards and the American Arbitration Association. He has conducted enterprise valuations and appraisal studies, rendered opinions and provided due diligence services of businesses and business interests with aggregate values more than $1 trillion. Jack is also the author of “Sports Team Valuation and Venue Feasibility,” a chapter in The Handbook of Advanced Business Valuation. Jack received the 1993 President's Award from the Broadband Tax Institute. 

Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Jack was a principal and president of Kane Reece Associates, Inc., a valuation consulting firm he co-founded in 1986. He also held leadership positions at Frazier, Gross & Kadlec, Inc., Valuation Research Corporation, Group W Cable and RCA Corporation. Prior to Kane Reece, Jack was the chief operating officer of Frazier, Gross & Kadlec, Inc., a Washington, D.C. communications consultancy, and executive vice president of Valuation Research Corporation in Princeton, New Jersey. While at these firms, he was responsible for all professional services. While a vice president of Group W Cable (formerly the largest cable television company), he was involved with acquisitions, divestitures, strategic planning and capital investments. Prior to Group W, Jack was director of Financial Analysis for RCA Corporation and later, director of Corporate Planning for the RCA Communications Group. While at RCA, Jack was intimately involved in the start-up of RCA's domestic satellite communications business (now SES Americom). 

Jack holds an M.B.A. in finance (with distinction) from St. John’s University and a B.A. in psychology from Upsala College. He also has an Advanced Professional Certificate in investment analysis and valuation from New York University’s Graduate School of Real Estate and Stern School of Business. Jack is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) and a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers, certified in business valuation. Jack is also a member of the American Economic Association and New York Society of Security Analysts. His National Honor Societies include Beta Gamma Sigma – Business, Omicron Delta Epsilon – Economics.
