Ashwini is a senior advisor and part of the founding team of Duff & Phelps’ Restructuring practice in India. A registered Insolvency Professional with IBBI, Ashwini has over 30 years of core banking experience, with a focus on business strategy, institutional lending, corporate and project finance, credit risk, retail banking, HR and talent management in both the U.S. and India. As part of the Restructuring practice at Duff & Phelps, Ashwini will be instrumental in advising boards and financial stakeholders of stressed and distressed businesses throughout their insolvency processes to preserve value.

Prior to Duff & Phelps, Ashwini was the Corporate Development Officer and Deputy Managing Director at the State Bank of India (SBI). As part of his erstwhile stint at SBI, he served as Chief General Manager in Bangalore for three years where he catapulted the bank to top positions in aggregate business and per branch business in Karnataka, even ahead of other state-based banks. He also served as the Executive Vice President and Head of SBI Capital Markets Limited in New Delhi, where he led the divestment of PSU share-holdings and was instrumental in sustaining SBI’s top position in loan syndications. Additionally, as the General Manager of International Banking division, he oversaw correspondent relations and exposure limit setting for all international banks, including country risk assessment in Mumbai. He converted the department into a business-driven financial institutions group, reorienting the way the bank looked at correspondent relations. As Deputy General Manager, he served as the Deputy Head of Infrastructure Financing at its project finance SBU for over four years. As part of his earlier successes at SBI, he was the Assistant Vice President of Credit Department in the bank’s New York branch for four years.

Ashwini has attended various Executive Development Programs on topics of leadership, credit, infrastructure finance and marketing at Wharton Business School, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, IIM Lucknow, Queens College, City University of New York, Columbia University and World Bank Institute.

He completed his Bachelors in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University and Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
