Will the Oil Industry Help Address Climate Change?

Mike Collier, Managing Director in Duff & Phelps’ Transaction Advisory Services practice, published an article in Renewable Energy World, focusing on the factors contributing to the renewable energy revolution and the potential role of the oil industry in this shift.

In the article, Mike highlights the investments made by some of the top oil companies in renewable energy and how the costs to generate power from renewables, such as wind and solar, have declined dramatically. He further explains the advancements made in battery technology to support consumer-operated electric devices, such as electric cars, and in grid technology to reliably operate with renewable generation in the mix.

Emphasizing factors driving the expansion of renewable energy, Mike explains that in addition to government subsidies, consumers are now placing demands on companies to include renewables as part of their overall energy mix. The market force coupled with improvements in cost and technological sophistication will likely compel oil companies to make their move towards accelerating the pace of the global energy revolution.
